When does Group 2 declare?

A declaration is not a payment. The amount is announced first, the fund goes ex-dividend the next trading day, and the cash arrives a day or two after that — so the number below is already settled even though it has not reached your account yet.
Is a bigger check a raise?
No, and this is the part that catches people out. These funds sell options, so the payout tracks volatility rather than company earnings. A single week's move — up or down — is normally noise. Judge the trend, not the week.
How much of this check is your own money back?
These funds report an estimated return of capital figure with every declared distribution — the portion that is not income but your own capital handed back. It matters because return of capital is not taxed as a dividend, and because paying it out reduces the fund's NAV, which is the mechanism behind the erosion holders complain about. The split differs sharply between groups, which is a reason to look at your own group rather than a site-wide average.
Treat these as estimates. The issuer revises them, and the figure that actually matters for tax is the one on your 1099-DIV after year end, not the one published alongside the distribution.
